Wow, this was a hidden gem for sure. We were looking for a place to grab a drink after work, and I was surprised when the San Francisco Wine Society popped up when I was searching Yelp for happy hour spots.[1] The building is tucked away in an alley off of Battery. The space is absolutely gorgeous, with high ceilings, exposed brick, subtle lighting, and a library ladder in front of the wine shelves behind the bar. They offer a number of tasting flights as well as regular glasses/bottles. The flights are thoughtfully selected/grouped, and described in entertainingly un-snooty detail. They consist of three generous pours for about the same price you might expect to pay on the higher end for a single glass of wine in a fancy restaurant. I tried some rosés and my husband tried some interesting reds, which were delicious. I appreciated being able to compare the wines all at once instead of serial pours like you get in a winery. The staff are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable (they talked to us about the wines), but did not hover. We also ordered some snacks - the marinated castelveltrano olives are a must. I've been trying to figure out how to make my own. I tried once and it was meh. I will obviously need more research, so unfortunately I guess I'll have to go back and try them again, with more wine, of course. Poor me. [1] They do not offer a happy hour. Yelp lied!

Cool place with excellent live music. It's very dark and cozy here with plenty of comfortable leather chairs. The service was excellent my waiter kept my glass full and was attentive. The wines were good many by the glass from around the world. They even had a unique ones from Eastern Europe at a very low price point. I was also impressed by the mushroom flat bread pizza. It was so full of toppings and it was absolutely delicious and had the best flavor. It's perfect for one as a meal or to share for the table.

Super chill - great wine list and experienced wine loyalist at the helm. Must try if you are in the hood.

This spot is tucked inside a small street so it feels like a little get away from downtown. It's got a dark, romantic, and cozy feel. There were various seating arrangements and all were arranged far enough apart so that each party had some privacy. We loved the pickled vegetables and spinach and cheese pizza pockets. The wine flights were generously poured and there was an option that suits everyone's unique preferences. Service was helpful, attentive, and friendly. The bathroom was also very clean and cutely decorated! Great spot for a date night or catching up with friends.
